The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) sponsors an international programming contest for college students, known as the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) sponsored by IBM. Teams of three students write computer programs to solve a set of problems in five hours. Programming teams from the states of MS, AL, GA, SC, and FL compete at the Southeast Region (SER) Contest; the best team represents the region at the world finals. The goal is to improve the skills necessary to solve problems with computers. (See the ACM ICPC entry external link at Wikipedia or visit the ICPC official WWW site external link.)

The 2010 ACM Southeast USA regional programming contest will be held Saturday, the 6th of November. The practice round will be between 11am and noon EDT, the contest from 1:30pm to 6:30pm EDT. The contest is distributed via the Internet over several sites:

Florida Tech logo Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida. directions; parking; registration: 3nd floor of Harris (6-9pm, Fri) and 9-10:30am, Sat; Florida Tech schedule

Like last year, the contest will be conducted in a GNU/Linux environment. The programs can be submitted in C, C++, Java, Haskell, Pascal, and Python. New contest management software will be used.

During the contest the current standings of the teams will be posted and updated continuously (until the last hour of the contest when updates will be discontinued). After the contest the final results will be posted. Eventually the final results will be posted at the official ICPC WWW site external link.

Representatives from IBM may be available to collect resumes for IBM internship and co-op opportunities. So bring one along, if you are interested in internships for the summer of 2011.
